A Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Anime Is Officially Happening. But We Won't See It Until 2027

Return Of The Ghost

If you are a fan of Ghost of Tsushima like I am, this is amazing news.

The acclaimed Sucker Punch title launched in July 2020 received near-perfect scores. After my first playthrough, I and many others wanted more, leading to the release of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends in October. This cooperative expansion allows players to engage in Japanese folklore-inspired missions across various game modes as one of four classes, earning new gear and skills for tougher challenges.

It breathed new life into what was mainly a single-player experience long before it passed its prime without turning it into a live-service nightmare that many games today tend to fall into. Legends became a hit with fans and has kept Ghost of Tsushima alive over the last four years, leading up to its eventual PC release in 2024. This has only served to reignite interest in the title, with Ghost of Yotei slated for its release this year.

However, what truly makes Ghost of Tsushima shine is its single-player campaign, which puts you in the shoes of Jin, a samurai warrior thrust into a losing war against the Mongol invaders. At this point, the player is left to choose how Jin's story will play out. Will you honor his upbringing as a traditional samurai and face your enemies head-on? Or will you adapt to new tactics and attack from the shadows before they can sense your presence? Will you find a balance between the two? Ghost of Tsushima gives the player the freedom of choice in combat as you explore its war-torn yet beautifully crafted open world.

Ghost of Tsushima Anime Launches In 2027

If Ghost of Yotei is the highlight of 2025 then the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima anime will be the highlight of 2027. Yes unfortunately we will need to wait a couple of years before we can see the Crunchyroll exclusive series.

Announced at CES 2025 the game-inspired series is officially in production with Star Wars: Visions "The Duel" episode director Takanobu Mizuno taking point with Gen Urobuchi as story the story writer. Development on the series also sees collaboration from Aniplex and Sony Music meaning we can expect some top-notch sound design, music, and animation.

Unfortunately, many details remain unknown about the series, such as the cast and how it will differ from the game it is based on, I expect more information to come to light as the year goes on.
